JULIA CARIAS

PRODUCER
Julia is an actor, entrepreneur and producer. Born and raised in Honduras she came to the United States at the age of nine but has called New York home since the mid-80′s. In 1997, Julia attended the renowned American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York City where she studied Acting before making the bold decision to move to Los Angeles to pursue her passion of acting. While there, Julia frustrated with the lack of diverse images for Latino actors realized she wanted to become a producer that had the power to influence our images. Returning to New York, she completed her BA in Communication from the College of Mount Saint Vincent where she received the “Marjorie Connelly Award” for outstanding academic achievement by an adult student. While attending college, Julia balanced a full-time job as Program Coordinator with the Trio Student Support Services, a federally funded national educational program. For over thirteen years, Julia has maintained a strong commitment to education and the arts. Her enthusiasm, business acumen and socially conscious attitude has led her to serve as advisor and participant for several student and cultural organizations such as La Casa Latina, the Black Student Union, Chica Luna Productions and the 100 Hispanic Women, Westchester Chapter. She has donated countless hours to numerous philanthropic causes.
In 2002, she co-wrote, produced and directed her first play titled ROOTS, a production by La Casa Latina, an organization dedicated to promoting Latino culture throughout the college community. ROOTS is a story that used both dance and theater to explore culture identity. In the spring of 2005, she produced and directed her first short film REMEMBER, a psychological thriller as part of her graduation requirement for her Communications BA.
In July of 2007, Julia joined the Sister Outsider Entertainment team as the Director of Operations. In 2008, she was the General Manager, Key Writer for PANDORA’S and lead Producer for the film component. PANDORA’S is an off-Broadway, multimedia show that premiered at Theater Row Studios in New York City’s off-Broadway theater district. In 2008, Julia became the third partner of Sister Outsider and is working with her team to develop a series of feature films, web-series and television shows – such as SANGRIA STREET, an original Latina Sex-In-The-City television show currently being optioned by a major network. In 2010, Julia signed on with Carmona Pictures as one of the lead producers of THE FORBIDDEN CHAIR, a supernatural horror drama that is in the process of being optioned by investors. For the 2011 docket, her company Sister Outsider is in production with an online project -THE LATINO IDENTITY PROJECT – a quality edutainment web-series that deals with the “Latino immigrant experience.” She will also be joining one of her partners at Sister Outsider in Hong Kong this fall for Elisha Miranda’s feature film directorial debut of Mother’s Day Wish, a script in pre-production as we speak with SONY Pictures.
In 2010, along with Elisha Miranda she co-founded and launched Athena Casting, A Multicultural Talent Boutique committed to diverse casting in the United States and Abroad. Athena is slated to cast four films and one television project in 2011 for Sony Pictures, MTV, Sister Outsider Entertainment and Wall Flower Productions. Carias and Miranda coupled together to bring the best of their directing, acting and producing experience as they build Athena as a premiere casting boutique with their office now in New York, but affiliates in Los Angeles and Miami.
She is a member of Lambda Pi Eta Communication Honor Society, the National Association of Latino Independent Producers (NALIP) and National Association of Latino Arts and Culture (NALAC).
